so post your thoughts please! | Quality. Nothing like fighting your way thru Death Toll only to be without a pipe bomb getting your head stomped by 20 zombies 5 feet from the edge of the dock.

My Mood: | | I like everything but versus mode I need some practice in.
The co-op is way fun. I like co-op games though.

My Mood: | | The co-op is amazing but without the right team you will get crushed repeatedly on Expert. This tends to wear down my patience and a step back to Advanced or even better, a change to Versus mode, and all is well. The game is great, don't doubt that, but you have to have a very high tolerance for loads and loads of constant gun firing sounds and again, at least on Expert, there doesn't really seem to be much of a break between the fighting. This makes for good co-op gameplay, but it will wear you out if you put in ridiculous hours like I do.
Versus mode, on the other hand, is a whole nother ballgame. I can't get over how fun and how frustrating it is at the same time. What we thought was a good group of players ended up getting rolled in a friggin pub by some amazing teamwork. While rushing through the maps is a legitimate strategy in Versus, it only amounts in massive points if at least 3 or ideally all 4 Survivors make it to the Safe Room. The teams we played against always felt like they were moving at a glacial pace, and yet due to my suckage as Hunter, and a lack of coordination as Infected, they seemed to pull out on top a number of times.
I will say that in Versus, one of the most frustrating (and imo, bullshit, but good tactics on there part) I have found that if a Hunter pounces on top of you right as you climb off a ladder, you apparently block everyone else from being able to climb said ladder to save your ass. Immediately after that Hunter killed me, or someone somehow managed to get up, they got their ass pounced by a second Hunter... rather anticlimactic ending to an otherwise decent match.
The boss Infected take some getting used to, and while they all have their specialties and can deal out significant damage, I prefer to be a Hunter as little as possible. The bad thing about this is that I have absolutely no choice... and unfortunately the Director chooses to spawn Hunters more than anything else (we had 3 out of 4 players be Hunter at the same time in one instance...) I am already a pretty tactical Boomer, although if a big wave has just hit the Survivors, or I survive long enough for a 2nd or 3rd vomit attack... there's no friggin zombies left (or the Director spawns like 10 of them) for the rush... what a friggin ripoff. I like the Smoker the best as I've managed to get some pretty weird angles and a lot of rooftop grabs on people and I just enjoy making other players into my virtual pinatas. Overall I think I'll be spending a lot more time in Versus, though it is imperative that you know the layout of a campaign before you attempt to play it in Versus or you will get utterly destroyed looking just looking for where you are trying to go. There are currently only 2 Versus campaigns available anyway, so that shouldn't be that big of a problem.
Regarding map quality, I loved the hospital campaign (No Mercy) which was partially shown in the demo. I wasn't as pleased with Death Toll, but I was also playing on Easy, with bots, and attempting to pistol everything for the achievement, so I'm sure that took away quite a bit of the excitement. The layouts of the levels felt too open though, compared to the dark hallways of the hospitals and nearby alleyways. I don't know what I'll think of it when I play through on co-op though, I'm guessing I'll warm up to it. As for the 3rd and 4th campaigns I haven't touched them yet. I think it's a lot more exciting to play these levels while everyone is still figuring stuff out and there's no real "win" combos that everyone tries to emulate. For that reason alone, I'm glad that the Director won't spawn the same bosses, or the same mobs in the same places every game.

My Mood: | | Nice wall you're building there cloud.
I'm getting it for about $40 through the steam four pack thing, I'm pooling my money with some of my friends to pay for it, then going over his house to play L4D all night long.

Uhh and FUN | So far, I've only played the demo, and only single player. I don't doubt that being able to play a zombie in the multiplayer version is great. But I'm wondering how soon L4D will start to seem old. Maybe Valve will include some sort of add-on to keep it from being purely kill or be killed... Or is multiplayer THAT good? |

My Mood: | | The multiplayer is really really nice with a group of people you enjoy playing with... if you don't like someone on your team, too bad, you keep them alive or they fuck you over (you can votekick if they're really being a douche) So far I've beaten the entire game but I've basically been playing Versus on the first campaign (No Mercy) over and over. The Versus on Blood Harvest looks ridiculously difficult. Considering I don't think that anyone other than maybe Blizz has played this as much as me, I don't think you'll get tired of the game for like 6 months, and by then there should be new content. (How many other things can you spend $50 on that keep you entertained for that long or longer though? That's my view of games in general btw)
Ideally, find someone who will let you watch them or play on their account (full game) with a group of friends. I doubt many people would think TF2 was all that great if they didn't like anyone on their team or it was playable with bots... same idea applies here. Great people make a great game. It's not meant to be played single-player (although sometimes you'll wish people could aim as well and cover you as good as the bots do) The game on normal is pretty relaxed and although you probably won't die, it should be a great experience. Advanced is sufficient for a group of good players, or a mix of good and bad (although they'll probably die at some point) I don't even play Expert anymore as it's just too frustrating and if I'm ever a part of a team that is that good, I'm sure it will take quite some time before that gets old.
Versus is the most fun for me, but most people will enjoy coop with some good friends. Since not everyone wants to spend $50 on something they're not sure about, either try the full game out somehow, or wait til price drops. I'm sure mods will be released soon enough that change the gamplay significantly (slow zombies, among other things.) Just give the community some time to finish destroying the main game and they'll come up with something to keep you interested as well. As always, you can play L4D on the side too, as I'm still sticking around for TF2 *shrug* they're both fun.
