Protect your steam account from ever being hijacked ( stolen ). Never give anyone online your steam account password and Never respond to anyone asking you for your steam account password. NO ONE FROM STEAM WILL EVER ASK YOU FOR YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT LOGIN PASSWORD.
Do not accept downloads from people you don't know via IRC ( internet relay chat ), IM ( instant messenger ) or Email. Check for viruses on a regular basis and never download anything from people you don't know.
Don't access your steam account from public computers that you never used before like internet cafe's, work, school, lan party, tournament or even a friend's house. You don't know if the computers have a key logger virus in them.
If your account ever gets stolen ( hijacked ) follow the instructions on the steam support website to get your account back.
