| | Female Medic, breaching into the third dimention. This will be where I'll post how the model is coming along, ask for imput, show off and brag about my work.
At the moment I haven't got much to show or report.
I'm currently in the referance gathering stage of modeling, scouring the net for images to help me model the character and making notes and drawings as well.
As you probably already know, this is the drawing made by Moose that made me want to do this.
Now, what do you think?
Should I go for a realistic(ish) look or go for something more in the TF2 style? | | Sponsored Links | |

| | Hmm, I'm not sure.
Both realistic and TF2-style would look really cool...
I'm thinking... TF2-style.

| | I can (and probably will) make both, it's just that I probably have to make the second one from scratch.
So it's mostly a "What do you want to see first?" kinda question. |

So it's mostly a "What do you want to see first?" kinda question. | I'd like to see TF2 style first, myself. It sounds like it'd be simpler, yet still look awesome.
But then you should totally make a realistic one after that.

| | Okay, I've got good news and I've got bad news.
Good news is I've got most of the referances I think I'll need, bad news is that I have a big assignment coming up in about two weeks (although rumor has it it may begin tomorrow, why, I have no idea at all) and I need to prepare for it.
So what I'm saying is that I can't work on the model for aprox two months, unless they moved the project, then it'l be one month (assuming I don't loose all my energy on the project).
And before you ask why I haven't done any actual modeling yet, I've got three reasons.
1. All of a sudden we had a serious rise in daily assigments, leaving me with no real spare time for it.
2. I was still looking for referance images.
3. I got hooked on the Left4Dead gift during the weekend....awsome game btw. |

| | Well, I'm back again.
I handed in my project a bit earlier today so I'm free to work on my own non-critical/grading projects again.
Might take a few days before I begin though, about 5 weeks of stressing modeling/texturing/animating has taken it's toll.
The fact that my result looks like I only spent a week on it does not help....
Anyways, since it'l be a bit longer before I can actually present some progress on the medic, I'll upload my current references.
Don't think it'l be all that interesting for you, but at least it gives you something to look at while you wait. Medic front side Medic back Nursecap Syringe gun Bonesaw Medigun Ubersaw
Now that I'm looking at them all I realize I haven't prepared the general body references.
Don't really see the need atm either, it's just a general T pose set after all, you'll see it soon enough.
Oh!
Just remembered, does any of you have any experience with unpacking gcf files?
Any unpackers you'd recommend?
I'd like to have a better look on some of the models there. |

| | Time for the first real update on the model.
Super simple so far, 230 polys unsmoothed.
The model is smoothed in the picture, though visually there's not much different atm.
You can also see some of the body referance image I'm using. |

| | Oh dear...I decided to move the image to another folder on my photobucket account to keep things somewhat tidier and when I came here to fix the link I find I can't edit my posts!
I'll add it here then, since I'm posting another image anyways.
There's not much different that you can see (besides the arms that is) but there are a few alterations here and there. |

| | It's got a fair bit to go still, but it's moving along.
Arms are a tad square, the back isn't defined at all, and I'm not 100% sure about the angles of the elbow joints. |

| | So first off, sorry about the complete dissapearance.
I had a little computer problem or rather a screen problem, my screen decided to die on me and try to shift the blame over to my computer.
Obviously I've been unable to work on the model due to that, my new screen should be in stock in a day or two.
In the meantime I'm borrowing an old screen of my brother's, it's unusually small...been a while since I had a screen like this.
And I've been traveling a bit, so I'm now home for the summer, or part of it at least.
Just a little heads up, work will resume in a while. |

| | Progress report!
I have done absolutely nothing!
Been busy lately, attended a reunion had to house sit and some more.
Anyways, back to topic.
Truth be told, I've been thinking about starting from scratch.
Not because there's something wrong with model (nothing THAT bad at least...), but before I began on it I was thinking about using it as my "explanation" to my family about just what it is I do, yet my superior memory decided to leave that detail out when I began.
Explaining how you make 3d models to someone who don't know even the basics is.....difficult.
This is mostly for my grandfather though, after I showed him the results of my first mandatory assignment at school he's under the impresssion that what I do is photo editing.
Him being an old school photograper who's repeatedly noted his dislike for todays ease of removing/adding anything they want and how he feels it's not "proper" photograpy.
It might just be me, but I'd kinda like to make him understand that's not what I do.
Since I'm on the topic of my old project I'll add links to the images I've uploaded. It'l help you understand why he came to that conclusion as well. Original image Test render some time into the project Final image
Lot's I'm not happy with but I got a good grade and I learned loads so it's all good.
It's probably obvious but my assignemnt was to find an image, and recreate it as accurately as possible.
And yes, I do enjoy bringing up my old works whenever it's suitable, and whenever it's not for that matter.
Anyways, I'd like to hear your imput, you've waited quite a while already with me having little to nothing to show for it.
You want me to get my ass to work and get the model done asap or can you wait even longer?
If I do redo it though you'd get a series of videos that showes more or less the entire prosess.
Eh? Eh? Sounds cool right? |

| | I don't think anyone but moose (and maybe moron) would complain if we had to wait a little longer . Me personally, I prefer something as refined as it can be before it's released (I also like to see sneak previews of it before it's released which is why excal and I get along so well ). So, take your time, impress your grandpa, and then get crackin' on it

| | In case anyone is wondering.
Yes, I'm still here.
No, I've not gotten any real work done.
Reason?
School.
I'm going to talk to my teacher about this project, if I'm lucky I might be able to make this project part of my school work, or rather use it as a replacement for some of my school work.
I'm studying 3D after all so it's not really offtopic and he did say we could swap school work with industry work if he approved it...wonder if this counts as industry work...
But don't expect any results for a while, I've got two mandatory projects I've got to get done before I can focus on this.
This project is really blazing ahead isn't it?

| | Greatings from the unknown.
I have returned.
School's been crazy busy and I've not had time to even log in.
I'd say I'm back for good (or at least till I have finsished the model) but I'm only a few days away from starting the biggest school project that will account for the majority of my grades.
And seeing how this project lasts for far longer than any of the others, I doubt I'll have any free time for a while.
Just felt I should drop by and say that I have not forgotten about nor ditched this project, no matter how it may seem.
So let's see how long I can pull a "Duke Nukem Forever" on this project eh? |
