They are pretty much just a novelty number at the moment. If Valve does do something with those numbers and specific advantages I'm pretty sure the community will go up in flames over it. I really don't see any point to those levels.

what if the levels are somehow tied to the frequency that hats drop??
For example... hidden in the code something says basically if you have X number of level 75+ items then drop 1 time in 1000 instead of one time in a lifetime??

I really do think though in upcoming patches if and when weapon trading is brought in that the stats on the weapons will mean something like added damage etc.
Even if the community does go up in flames over it , im sure they will still push forward with it as the community is never ever ever happy no matter what they do.
Random drops people complain , achievement earned weapons people complain , spies not effected by fan and and flame knock back effect people complain , spy effected by fan and flame knock back people complain , scout fan when it 1st came out , people complain , damage lowered people complain , damage increased a little people complain .... and so on and so on.

As for the hats I was thinking that they should have new ones with an actual effect such as a Demo hat that changes the look of the stickies and pipe bombs without any other changes.
