Don't build a sentry and then stand in front of it when enemies approach. Unless you like giblets.

| | NEVER attack from the same location as a Sniper.
I learned this lesson after starting 6k/35d the other day.
If you attack from the water, lower, and upper on BOTH sides, you get a tactical jump on snipers/heavies/soldiers.
The idea is to flank them from when they aren't looking.
Think of it like WWII. A sniper nest is TOAST if it ever gets discovered.
So far in learning Sniper, subtlety is the most important thing I have discovered. |

| | If I ever become a good Sniper, you won't have the CHANCE to even move out of your base, let alone fire a rocket!!! |

Ask even Cloud! He's the best friggin sniper in the server. |

Sorry for repetitive info.

My Mood: | | I'd say the biggest thing is to always keep moving... no matter what you're doing, moving will help keep you alive better than anything else (and as a sniper you have to keep moving or you will get raped by everything.) Even if you're just sitting in your own damn base, you never know when a spy will walk up and stab you (right next to your SG, that they ignored.)
As a sniper, hide your dot. I don't know how many times I've not known which side a sniper was on (start of map, just died, whatever) and he puts his dot where I can see it (either side of that middle window dealie = coming from that side, corner of your battlements = opposite side, above the fence in the water = opposite side, that's my favorite, or jamming his dot right in front of him while he walks out into yours.)
Pay attention to who is playing sniper on the enemy team, and how many there are. If you play on the server often enough, you know who is good and who isn't (for the most part.) When the good guys are dead, you have free reign (time to rack up kills for your team, so they can play offense.) Anything that isn't a sniper should already have been shot in the head, if something actually makes it to your battlements, or demomen/soldiers are hiding in the sewers and giving you crap...
Pull out your machete! Grumple is probably the biggest pain when it comes to that, cause he knows I'll dive head first off of the battlements and chase him into the sewer/stickies. Other than that, smack people in the face.
Defend the intel! If you hear a spy sap something, spaz out and smack him in the face. If you hear intel get taken, stand outside of spawn and determine which way it's going, tell your team, and then shoot the guy as he comes out w/ it, and chase em til they're dead.
I don't care how good you are, if you're a sniper, you aren't doing anything for your team if you ONLY sit on the battlements all day. People can say what they want, but I chase intel and get very irritated when I die and watch the intel go out battlements, right past our other snipers who are still in scope not doing anything >.<
Mixing up your position also helps, but if people want to kill you, they will. Enemy snipers may lose track of you when you move, but soldiers/pyros/heavies will be more likely to blast you in the face when you drop to the front door, and spies will stab you in the sewers.
A lot of these are 2fort tips, but this post is long enough so that'll do. Hopefully helps someone. (Oh and Jack is annoying, but that's what the machete, and your microphone to call for help are for) |

| | After hearing from the seasoned snipers I feel it necessary to add a small spy tip - when you spawn and are about to drop of the battlements, wait until you are FULLY cloaked to do so, or they (cloud) will nail you. Also if a sniper keeps hearing you sneak up on them, stand about 15 feet away (while invis) and shoot them in the head a few times right as you uncloak, while they are sniping. It just takes 2 or 3 shots and it usually kills them before they can react. Usually. |

Usually. | my tip is... don't drop out front. drop down the grate area, its normally safer... it might be a few extra seconds, but it beats the 15 second wait for getting sniped off the sniper deck. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
