Default Unlocks: Do you use them? When?

Since we started taking over the "Is Valve dropping hints?" thread, I figured this was worth posting.

The available unlocks so far are:

Medic: Blutsauger, Kritzkrieg, Ubersaw
Pyro: Flaregun, Backburner, Axestinguisher
Heavy: Sandvich, Natascha, K.G.B.

My setup and why:

Medic: Blutsauger, Ubercharge, Ubersaw

The Blut is one of the most annoying guns in the game... First of all, the Medic is faster than every class than the Scout. Couple this with running backwards and firing these vampiric syringes and you can take out just about every class in one clip. Also I believe they're still bugged to crit (they're not supposed to crit, right?) Amazing gun.

I use Ubercharge because I just don't trust the person I'm healing the majority of the time (or they get blown up and I'm again stuck with someone I don't trust) and Ubercharge means at least I am going to live. Not so for the Kritzkrieg. Also Ubercharge vs Kritzkrieg... Uber wins unless you happen to find the one person who can't aim to save anyone's life and the Uber runs out.

Ubersaw because frankly that is probably the coolest looking melee weapon in the game, and you get Ubercharge for hitting people with it! It seems like it has amazing reach when you're on the receiving end. Also dual/triple medic chains are just hilarious (and they work) so deal with it :P

Pyro: Backburner, Shotgun, Axestinguisher

I use the Backburner because I actually sneak up on people a fair amount (whether or not it registers correctly is another issue...) and plan my attacks so that I'll come up behind at least 1 person. Also I just like the simplicity of left-click and for the life of me I can't figure out when to properly fire crap back at people and I actually forget I can do that half of the time with the regular gun equipped. However, I think that if you can master the compression blast you will be a much better Pyro/Player for it (so kudos to Pyros who are on their way to mastering it!)

I choose the Shotgun over the Flare Gun because most of the time it just makes more sense to me. If I find a need to put away my Backburner it's usually because I'm in the water (and I think hopping is lame) so pulling out a Flare Gun isn't going to do me much good. I prefer the feel of a Shotgun overall (it's probably my favorite weapon across all FPS to begin with, though I prefer the FEAR iteration that blows people apart.) and unless you want to humiliate someone with 10hp by Flaring them to death, I don't find it all that useful (unless you're going to sneak up and chop them w/ the axe shortly afterwards...)

The Axestinguisher is just great. You can take down anything that's on fire in 1 hit the majority of the time (not always against Heavies.) There's no reason to use the Fire Axe unless you haven't unlocked the Axestinguisher yet or you don't bother setting people on fire first. (That's what "q" is for! Quickswitch ftw people)

Heavy: Sasha, Shotgun, K.G.B.

Sasha because Natascha is garbage. I only really see it being useful for slowing down a LARGE group of people for a demo to blow them up or something. Natascha does less damage, therefore to make up that damage you have to shoot at the person longer... which just gives them more time to kill you. It's probably more redeeming the more people you have around a Heavy, but since most people just run past the Heavy/Medic and ignore them to begin with it does no good and I ignore it. Natascha would most likely work well in an organized push with other Sasha carrying Heavies.

Shotgun because Heavies shouldn't run around by themselves and should already know where all of the Health Packs are to begin with. Sandvich is good for boxing on the bridge so you don't have to go back to spawn after you win.

K.G.B. because those gloves are ridiculous and going on punching sprees is hilarious (and effective if you have teammates with you and you can catch people off guard.)

Well... I'm gonna elaborate on my old post (Copy and paste FTW), I hope this doesn't violate anything Night... It's kinda like double posting.

My medic layout:
  • Blutsauger, with the health sucking powers one can take out a pyro and live to tell the tale.
  • Uber, I used the original medi-gun since I started the game... and developed uber techniques that can't be done with the kritz.
  • ubersaw, I love Bonesawing people, and with this I can go attack people, and be effective to the team.

My pyro layout:
  • Flamethrower, I love using the airblast. I usually burn, blast, then Axe enemies.
  • Flare Gun I like it, and I've got a pretty good aim with it and it's way more helpful for taking out scouts or temporarily disabling snipers.
  • Axtinguisher I use the Fire Axe in all the same situations that the axtinguisher was built for... so why not have it?

My Heavy layout:
  • Natascha/Sasha depending on my mood.
  • The Sandvich if there are no medics, else I use my beloved shotty ( <3 Evan).
  • The KGBs are nice, as the fists are usually used when I don't have time to spin up. I switch to the normal fists when I want to taunt kill though.

Here is my setup...
Medic:
- Blutslauger, It doesn't really make much sense not to use it...

- Original Medi- gun, because the kritzkrieg is just plain ineffective. It is basically useless against sentries (as crits make no difference against them) and I usually see players get exploded before they could do any real damage. I can only see it being effective when used in conjunction with a regular uber.

- Ubersaw, This thing is just awesome, and fits my aggressive playing style by being able to get an uber while stabbing guys in the face.

Pyro:
Backburner/ Flamethrower, It depends on whether I want to man charge the enemy team or sneak around and burn them in the back. I like them both.

Shotgun, One of the most valuable weapons in the game and has saved my ass countless times and there is no way I would give it up for that stupid tampon gun.

Axtinguisher (for now), I liked it at first but it is rare to find a situation that would actually make this more useful than the Axe

Heavy:
The unlocks for the heavy basically suck donkey dongs...

Sasha, More damage = More dead people

Shotgun, I probably have the shotgun out 75% the time and (depending on the situation) is sometimes far more useful than the machine gun.

Fists, The KGBs are just too slow for me and they frequently get me killed.

While all of you guys are busy bashing the kritzkrieg, I'm going to support it! Think of when they released the medic pack. What map did they release it with? GOLDRUSH! The Kritzkrieg does a beautiful job eliminating huge groups of enemies with just a couple of rockets (provided the soldier lives long enough) and then you can switch right back over to the uber after the game starts.

It's useful for clearing out large groups of people that you tend to encounter at the start of maps.

I never bashed it I just suck with it... I'm an uber medic through-and-through... and I don't really want to change my ways. I've seen it used, and in tournaments it's used allot more than uber.

Verge tried to help me get it, but, uh that didn't turn out too well

Thanks for trying though Verge.

So am I. I REFUSE to use the medigun under 99% of the conditions.

My setup:
Medic
Blut
Kritz
Bonesaw

Pyro
Backburner
Shotgun
Axe

Heavy
Natascha/Sasha (Doesn't matter)
Shotgun
Fists/KGB (Depends if I feel like I need to tone down the killing or not)

Pretty much with Heavy I hate using the minigun, and tend to punch/shotgun people. And if I kill people too much with fists, I switch to KGB to easen it up for people.

I think its very map dependant, which means Valve succeeded.

Most of us play 2fort so much we forget that other maps require other strategies.

Pyro:
2fort I use air compresser, Every other mapI use backburner. I spend a lot of times in the tunnels and need the air compressor. If you are not using the backburner on badwater, you are doing yourself a dis-service. The axe-tinguisher is always equiped, but I generally only use it if I"m with another pyro. Flaregun, wtf are you serious, who uses that thing its trash!

Medic:
The "vampire" gun is always on. if I'm equipped with Kritz I try to stick with soldiers and heavies (demo if its setup time). If I'm equipped with regular uber I try to stick with pyros and demos. uber-saw is always on.

Heavy:
shotgun is almost always on. sandwich needs an adjustmant to time, it just leaves you vulnerable WAY too long. natasha is never on, unless ithe other team is scout heavy and even then -- really, it sucks too. gloves always on,.
