Default Transfer cables?

Since Dell is sending me a new laptop I'm trying to find the least painful and expensive way possible to transfer my data. The tools at my disposal are and 8GB flash drive and a 2GB flash drive (no I don't have an external drive my family needs one but they don't want to buy one which means I'll be buying it). I've heard about transfer cables but newegg wasn't any help in finding a good set for vista to vista transfer. Ideas on how to go about doing this would be greatly appreciated.

I've only heard bad things about it but that shouldn't influence your decision, although I think an external hard drive would be better for long term use.

Well I need to hear the bad things about them too. I wish I had the money for an external right now...

One option, assuming you have a network at your disposal is to just get both machines on the same network, and share the hard drive of the old machine, connect to it with the new machine and do the copy that way. I don't know if it's an option, but wanted to throw that out there for you.

depends on the amount of data. windows file sharing is notoriously slow, but thats a route you can go if you have a network. i used it to transfer things for a new computer....

but i'd just go buy/borrow a bigger flash drive...

I need to set up a home network but don't know how. If I get one running I will try that.

If I don't have the time I'm tempted to buy one...

Setting up a home network is easy. Their is a wizard for it. Go to My Network Places and on the left side you should see "set up a home or small office network"

Follow the instructions.

Walmart has a USB transfer cable for around 40 bucks, dunno how well they work. The plus side is that once you're, done, you can get your 40 dollars back =P

lol that's true. I've had friends that do that with various stuff. I knew a girl who bought an outfit for a job interview then returned the day after the interview (yeah she was a cheapskate)...
