My Mood: | | Blew My PSU Well my new 5770 showed up this morning so I was like FUCK YEAH and decided to do a card swap. Card said it needed minimum 400Watt PSU and since mine is 600 I was all like WOOT WOOT we're all good and did the swap. It was all good but it hung on the mobo load screen for like 30-45 seconds and then proceeded to tell me to enter a boot device. So I listen to my HDD and I don't hear anything. But I wasn't quite sure what I was listening for so I thought it was normal and reconnected the power cables like 9 times retrying it every time and swapping back and forth between drive bays because I thought one of my HDD's was putting pressure on the PATA type cable for my 250 drive. So whatever. I moved it to the final bay hoping it will fit the card and everything but to do that I had to unplug the PSU from the mobo. So I do that plug everything in and the PSU doesn't work. Nothing turns on. I tried all the connections and it's a no go. Well shit. So I call up the local computer guy and he tells me my shitty Ultra PSU I got with my barebones kit two years ago is 600 watts but it's RSM'd to something like 450 watts. It didn't have enough power to run the card, the mobo and the drives. Hence why the drives weren't spinning. So after trying it over and over again the PSU decided to say "Hey fuck you man I can't handle this shit I'ma die." So it did.
So now I'm bringing it into him tomorrow to take a look at and have him double check in person and probably buy a new PSU.
Very depressing man.

He'll still get it. He'll just have to wait until I get paid again on the 30th.

My Mood: | | I've actually heard good things about Ultra. The amount of current the 12 v rail supplies is really the number to look at on PSU's anyway, plenty just cheat their wattage by having very high currents on the lower voltage rails.

My Mood: | | Other people have told me they're cheap and reviews slam them....
I brought it in with the new card. Asked him to fix the PSU and install the card. I just called them 30 minutes ago and he said he'd been working on it for an hour and the PSU had an issue with the connector or something. Said he may be able to get it to work. Also said he's going to charge me $60 for the card installation. I only have 150 in the bank so if I need a new PSU ontop I wont be able to afford the repairs. :\
---------------------------------
He just called me again. Apparently my main 1TB Seagate drive isn't booting D:
---------------------------------
Computer all fixed up. Just need to install Windows. Something to do with where my PSU was hooked into my mobo and how my bios was set and some other shenanigans

My Mood: | | That sucks,
A blown PSU can do a lot of damage right before it goes, hopefully you can get the drive to work again. If you're getting a new PSU I would suggest an Antec, it will cost about double what you would think but it will work at its wattage rating.

My Mood: | | It works. Everything is all set up. I'm trying to install windows to my 250 drive however it wont let me install. It says to ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the BIOS
Can you help me with this Dawkins?

My Mood: | | 7. I got it to install again on my 1TB. Now I have a feeling I'll need to back everything up, do a clean reformat, and be done with it
---------------------------------
So I had windows on my 250 drive, and when I took out my CMOS battery my bios stopped seeing the drive.
---------------------------------
]The copy of windows is still on that 250 GB drive. I just can't get the BIOs to see it. How do I get it to see and boot from that drive?

My Mood: | | So windows can see the drive but not the bios, or more likely the master boot record? I've actually had something like this happen, all I had to do was first make sure that the drive has all the right settings in the bios, if it does then put the win 7 disk in and boot it and instead of install do repair on the correct drive. I think your computer just didn't know where to look to boot.

| | yah sounds like you just need to replace your mbr. pop in a cd and do a repair is easiest, probably. in xp you could do recovery console and run fixmbr and such.. not sure about 7...

My Mood: | | Got it to boot from the drive after some fucking around in the BIOs. But windows is really slow to boot, no doubt because I have two copies of windows on there. :\

My Mood: | | Yeah, but now it boots only to the copy of windows on my 1TB drive. It's fucking odd. I'm copying files over to the 1TB because if I can't get anything else to work, I'm just going to reformat the 250 and reinstall it on there again and hope it chooses to boot from that drive, providing it even allows me to install windows on that drive.
Fucking thing :\
Any other ideas?

My Mood: | | Um you could try and just not allow booting off the 1 tb drive in the bios, on the drive boot order on most bios's you should be able to select nothing for the second drive. Otherwise I don't know, Ryan probably knows better than I.

My Mood: | | I did that. It STILL boots from the 1TB drive. Figure that one out?
I know this because on the original copy of Windows I had the 1TB as my main labeled as F and my 250 as C. Here the 1TB is C and the 250 is D

My Mood: | | I'm pretty stumped, what happens when the 1 tb drive is unplugged, can it boot at all?
