Help me out...

So for the last few days i have been trying to play this wonderful game again...and sadly i have got nothing but hl2.exe cannot not open errors. I have tried almost everything i can think of to fix it,everything i have seen on the steam site,updated all my drivers,reinstalled steam and tf2 multiple times,several virus scans,then i even removed avg cause i heard it could fuck it up still no fix. So i am hoping one of you have the magic fix i am looking for. I have changed nothing since i played a few months ago. I know this should be in tech but i am hoping more people will see it here and give me a hand.

Uhh. Maybe it could be a hardware issue, like your card could be dieing? I would say a reformat but only as a last resort. If its been a few years since a format you should do it anyway. Sometimes if you're away from your computer for a while things can start to fuck up on it and you need to reformat.

I'll keep looking around for help but if we can't find anything just reformat your rig.

Actually, this exact thing happened to me...

I got pissed of at it and couldn't figure it out so I reformatted. Luckily, I was planning on reformatting anyway (as it had been about a year), this was just the kick in the ass I needed to actually do it.

The problem with a reformat is that i don't have the slightest clue where my windows disk is. I have moved like 3 times since my last reformat and it got lost in the mix. Now i know there are...less than legal ways..to obtain a new copy of windows and while i might get photoshop and the like this way i don't fully trust them for a full OS. So i am really looking for something far less drastic.

Bah I'm on a pirated copy of XP pro right now. Works fine. If you don't trust it just borrow a disc from a bud.

all 4 of my home computers are running off a pirated version of windows

Try updating the game and your drivers.
