How to get a clan sponsorship

I see clans starting up one day then the next day after having one or two scrims ( clanwars ) start asking for clan sponsorships. I tell you if no one knows who you or your clan are, then you're not going to get a sponsorship at all. I would suggest to try and a free game server through a company's affiliate program or get someone to rent one and have that person join your clan.

Each game server hosting provider that sponsor clans / teams / gaming communities have their own set of rules. Read the rules carefully before requesting a sponsorship and avoid the companies that do not sponsor.

See if you can answer these sponsorship sample application questions.

Do you have a website?
How much traffic does your website get each month?
Can you show proof of the traffic your website gets?
How many active members does your clan have?
How long have your clan been in existence?
What online gaming league(s) is your clan currently in?
What LAN / Events do you attend?

If you would like to get your clan sponsored you need to provide as much detail information as you can to try and beat other clans that are after the samething as your clan. The better your clan detail information is the better your chances at getting sponsored.

TIP: When applying for a clan sponsorship make sure you write a well written application.

I have seen some really funny applications that would have you laughin for days of people that go looking for sponsorships. Using different types of font colors, font sizes or different types of font letters, really bad grammar and the list goes on...

Do not waste your time submitting applications that resemble the very small bad app in the quote box. No one will take your clan seriously specially the company that you are applying to get free stuff.

Sponsor offer...

Sponsors will tell you up front what they are offering clans / teams / communities but that does not mean that you can not make a request. When making a sponsorship request do not over do it just ask for what you need at that moment in time.

A sponsor will offer a full clan package like a public gameserver, private gameserver, website hosting, fast download service, voice server to your clan / team or maybe just offer you a voice server. It all depend on the sponsor and where you are request sponsorship.

Things to do...

Hosting service providers expect you to do certain things so you can keep your sponsorship. Advertising their company name or website address by putting it in your game server hostname ( Server Title ), Message of the day ( MOTD ) file, Advertisements in-game, Adding ad banners to your website(s), Ventrilo message of the day ( MOTD )... and if you have an irc channel you can add the company name or website url to the channel title or welcome message.

There's some companies out there that do not want you to tell anyone that they are sponsoring your team. All they want in return is for you to add a link on your website back to their website.

Things to know...

Some companies only sponsor clans / teams when gaming leagues are in season.
Never bad mouth a hosting company, you might end up at their forum one day asking to be sponsored.
Never say "This will send you alot of traffic to your website" -- Because mostly everyone that searches for a sponsor say it.

Not ready to get sponsored?...

If you think your team / clan or community is not ready to get sponsored yet then you can tryout an affiliate program from a game server provider. Most game server providers have an affiliate program and they all pay differently.
