This setup guide is going to show you how to install and setup ventrilo. First you need to download the ventrilo client from the ventrilo website Ventrilo - Download
Windows users need to download the one that correspond to your windows version.
Windows i386 - 32bit - Win2000 and newer
Windows 9x - 95/98/ME
Windows x64 - 64bit
Mac users need to download.
Mac OSX 10.3 or higher - 32bit
You will need to agree to the disclaimer before you can download ventrilo.
Once you have agreed to the disclaimer click on I agree to download the client. Click run or save when the file download security window pops open. If you picked SAVE then pick the desktop to save the file.
Client Installation
Go to the desktop and double click on the ventrilo program that you just downloaded. The ventrilo client setup screen will open. Click next after reading the welcome message. You must agree to the license agreement before you can use the software. After accepting the agreement click next to continue. Your name or computer name should appear in the full name box. If you belong to an organization type the name in the orgranization box. Now select who's going to be using the program anyone who uses the computer or just you. After selecting who's going to use the program click next to continue. Select the destination folder where ventrilo is going to be saved. The default setting should be good click next to continue. Now the application is ready to install the ventrilo client. Now the ventrilo client has been installed successfully click finish to end the installation.
Client Setup
Double click to open the ventrilo icon that was created by the installer on the desktop.
The numbers in the picture above represent the steps we have to take to setup the client.
1. Click on [->] to setup the User Name that you would like to use.
Click on the New button to add the nickname that you would like to use then click ok.
[If you would like your name announce everytime you enter a vent server add your nickname to Phonetic box and click ok to continue]
2. Click on [->] to setup the vent server you would like to join.
Click on the New button to add the name of the vent server you would like to join then click ok.
In the Hostname or IP box you put the the IP of the server you would like to join. In this case i put the IP of Noob Gamers ventrilo server.
In the Port Number box add the port number of the server you would like to join. Again in this case i put the port number of Noob Gamers ventrilo server.
[If you don't want anyone recording your conversation. Uncheck the box that says "Allow others to record my conversation"]
3. Click on Setup to make changes to your settings.
If you would like to press a button everytime to want to talk checkmark the box that says "Use Push To Talk Hotkey (PTT Mode)"
On the "Hotkey" box click with your left mouse button then on your keyboard select/press the key that you would like to use to talk.
Checkmark the box that says "Play Key Clicks" - This lets people know when you are going to start talking and when you are done talking by making a clicking noise. when you press the key you selected to talk.
[If you are having problems hearing people in the server. You can raise the "Inbound" volume to hear everyone better. The same goes for "Outbound" if people are having a problem hearing you. You can raise the "Outbound" volume so everyone can hear you better.]
[If you would like to test how you are going to sound in the server. Click on the Test button in the "Test with" box. Press the Key you selected to talk and when you are done click on the test button again to end testing.]
4. Click on Connect to connect to the vent server.
The first thing you are going to see is the MOTD - Message Off The Day. Click close to see the channel or rooms that you can join and start chatting away.
